Strategy and Vision

The Mandeville School Careers Curriculum has been designed in line with the school values where students believe in themselves, achieve to the best of their ability and thereby succeed in life.

Our Intent is to support every student to work towards independent living and working. Through belief in themselves, choice, hope, optimism, adaptability, and resilience to access and engage in decent work in all its forms, both voluntary and paid and provide opportunities to learn and make progress in the pursuit of wellbeing and happiness.

We aim for our students to achieve by encouraging lifelong learning and providing opportunities to develop key employability skills which are highly valued by employers, universities, and apprenticeship providers.

We strive to ensure all students can succeed through a curriculum that nourishes personal development by giving students opportunities to explore their identity and grow their character, equipped with all the information needed to be able to make an effective contribution to society.

Our curriculum enables students to experience life to the full through a curriculum that inspires and enriches them with meaningful knowledge and cultural capital. High aspirations mean studying a broad range of subjects in key stage three and having a variety of routes through key stage four and five which are challenging and aspirational, equipping them with the skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding as a foundation for managing their lifelong career and learning.

 Year 11 Guidance Interviews

Tim Swithenbank has this term joined our Careers Team at TMS as a Level 6 qualified Careers Adviser.  He will offer an impartial career advice and guidance meeting to all year 11 students this academic year.  This 1-2-1 personal guidance meeting will give all students the opportunity to explore their post-16 options and future careers.

Student Voice:

"It was very clear and showed how I can access different websites and which websites to use that focused on what I was interested in, even though originally I had no clue. This session helped me to focus my search more and to see what was available with the grades I'm likely to get and what route I would like to go down. It was very focused and specific to my interest/ subject and to what I said"

"Very nice gentleman who was able to give me additional information about the industry I want to work in. He also showed me some extra qualifications that I could gain that might help me get into the industry."

All year 11 students will be offered a careers interview this year.

Employer Links

Our core purpose is to prepare our young people for life. Helping them to achieve qualifications is only part of what they need. They also need to know about work, what workplaces are like, and what skills they will require. This enables them to identify what jobs match their skills and interests and to make good choices. This is where you come in....

We understand that we have a critical role to play in preparing our learners for the next step of their progression either in education, training or employment.  We work in partnership with many employers across the region and understand the importance of making our learners aware of the many different job roles and opportunities that are available.  We want to help our learners to understand that there are some great companies to work for, and we are continually developing ways to engage with them.

Employers face increasing demands to engage with education and there are many reasons why they want to get involved, the main one being to actually meet our learners and realise that they may be talking to their future employee.

We are continually building solid and long-lasting relationships with our local employers and work with them on a regular basis with activities such as work experience, employers coming into the school to give industry talks and also talk about their own career path. Our learners are given the chance to visit employers to be able to observe and understand what goes on.

How can you help us?

If you would like to join the number of providers we work with please contact us. We are very flexible and run a number of different types of careers education events. These include:

  • Assembly – a short 20 minute talk to learners sharing what you do and opportunities regarding careers at your work place
  • Work experience – support a Year 10 student for a work experience week
  • Work place visits- a tour of your business / facility and a chat with some employees can open so many eyes to your business.
  • Making lessons relevant to work -we would love to include more job and skills learning across our curriculum
  • Mock interviews and job application practice - Invaluable insights for our learners of how to get into the world of work
  • Taster sessions - Show our pupils what you do and what skills are needed.

Please contact our Careers Lead Laura Redrup (lredrup@insignis.org.uk) if you are a provider interested in promoting careers at the Mandeville School.

The Careers Programme

The CEIAG programme has been developed to engage parents and local employers, both in school and externally, to support our students to become employable and aspirational young people in accordance with the recommended Gatsby Benchmarks and conforms to the statutory requirements.

Please see our careers outline here

Careers at TMS

Our approach has been to embed careers education throughout the curriculum as well as using off timetable days, experiences of workplaces, assemblies and trips and visits.

Monitoring, Review and Evaluation

The CEIAG programme is monitored and evaluated annually. Reviewing the CEIAG programme takes account of the school’s Accelerated Improvement Plan to ensure the programme continues to support the school’s aims.

The effectiveness of our provision is reviewed via the Compass Plus online evaluation tool.  This tool is used by schools and colleges in England to support the analysis and evaluation of careers activity against the eight benchmarks of best practice.  It ensures that the development of our careers strategy is ongoing.

Provider Access

The Mandeville School believes in giving FE, HE and training providers the opportunity to talk to pupils at the school.
