Strategy and Vision
The Mandeville School Careers Curriculum has been designed in line with the school values where students believe in themselves, achieve to the best of their ability and thereby succeed in life.
Our Intent is to support every student to work towards independent living and working. Through belief in themselves, choice, hope, optimism, adaptability, and resilience to access and engage in decent work in all its forms, both voluntary and paid and provide opportunities to learn and make progress in the pursuit of wellbeing and happiness.
We aim for our students to achieve by encouraging lifelong learning and providing opportunities to develop key employability skills which are highly valued by employers, universities, and apprenticeship providers.
We strive to ensure all students can succeed through a curriculum that nourishes personal development by giving students opportunities to explore their identity and grow their character, equipped with all the information needed to be able to make an effective contribution to society.
Our curriculum enables students to experience life to the full through a curriculum that inspires and enriches them with meaningful knowledge and cultural capital. High aspirations mean studying a broad range of subjects in key stage three and having a variety of routes through key stage four and five which are challenging and aspirational, equipping them with the skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding as a foundation for managing their lifelong career and learning.

Personal Guidance
Year 11 Guidance Interviews
Tim Swithenbank is our Level 6 qualified Careers Adviser at The Mandeville School. He offers an impartial career advice and guidance meeting to all Year 11 students. This 1-2-1 personal guidance meeting will give all students the opportunity to explore their post-16 options and future careers.
Student Voice:
"It was very clear and showed how I can access different websites and which websites to use that focused on what I was interested in, even though originally I had no clue. This session helped me to focus my search more and to see what was available with the grades I'm likely to get and what route I would like to go down. It was very focused and specific to my interest/ subject and to what I said"
"Very nice gentleman who was able to give me additional information about the industry I want to work in. He also showed me some extra qualifications that I could gain that might help me get into the industry."
All year 11 students will be offered a careers interview this year.
Employer Links

We are always pleased to hear from anyone who would be prepared to come to our school and speak about their profession or experiences. These are great opportunities for students to learn and ask questions about a career that may suit them in the future.
If you would like to come into our school to talk about your profession or volunteer for an event, please contact the school office, tel: 01296 745400 or email office@mandeville.school

- Work place visits- a tour of your business / facility and a chat with some employees can open so many eyes to your business.
- Making lessons relevant to work -we would love to include more job and skills learning across our curriculum
- Mock interviews and job application practice - Invaluable insights for our learners of how to get into the world of work
- Taster sessions - Show our pupils what you do and what skills are needed.
The Careers Programme
The CEIAG programme has been developed to engage parents and local employers, both in school and externally, to support our students to become employable and aspirational young people in accordance with the recommended Gatsby Benchmarks and conforms to the statutory requirements.
Please see the TMS Careers Programme here
Our approach has been to embed careers education throughout the curriculum as well as using off timetable days, experiences of workplaces, assemblies and trips and visits.
Monitoring, Review and Evaluation including CEIAG Policy
The CEIAG programme is monitored and evaluated annually. Reviewing the CEIAG programme takes account of the school’s Accelerated Improvement Plan to ensure the programme continues to support the school’s aims.
The effectiveness of our provision is reviewed via the Compass Plus online evaluation tool. This tool is used by schools and colleges in England to support the analysis and evaluation of careers activity against the eight benchmarks of best practice. It ensures that the development of our careers strategy is ongoing.
Provider Access Legislation (Baker Clause)
TMS has a role to play in ensuring that young people, parents and carers are supported to develop the knowledge and understanding of all available routes at key transition points. Promoting all pathways enables young people to make informed and more confident decisions.

Unifrog
The Complete Destinations Platform
Unifrog is an online platform that supports schools and colleges to deliver their statutory duty to provide students with impartial and independent guidance on a full range of post-16 and post-18 options.
Unifrog is the only place where students can compare every undergraduate course in the UK as well as international opportunities. Additionally, Unifrog provides students with access to the most comprehensive list of live apprenticeships available across the country including Higher, SLP and degree apprenticeships, as well as FE courses.
Once students have explored their interests and compared the full range of pathways available to them, Unifrog provides one place for students to draft all materials needed for applications such as CVs and personal statements.
All students, across all year groups, have access to the platform in keeping with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their next steps.
Benefits for teachers
Unifrog is a whole-school careers platform. It allows teachers and careers advisors to track their pupils’ progress and keep a record of their research and all the career interactions each student has received. It makes it easy for teachers and careers advisors to work with students to find the best next step for them. Staff are able to provide feedback on applications, comment on students’ research, log careers interviews and interactions as well as upload action plans, and provide support and feedback on application materials.
Information for parents and carers
Every parent/carer can have their own log in to Unifrog, where they can access the tools, information and guidance to support their child to make their best next step. Contact Mr Neil Hart to receive your unique login for Unifrog, and receive support on how to navigate the Unifrog platform.

Labour Market Information
While many young people face tough competition for jobs, many employers report difficulties in recruiting people with the right skills. The working world has changed fundamentally over the past generation, creating an employment challenge caused by the demise of the job for life, the emergence of the knowledge economy and the loss of many unskilled and semi-skilled jobs due to technological and globalisation changes.
Labour market information (LMI) may help students and their parents understand the job market and find out which careers, different qualifications can lead to.
Labour Market Information about the operation of the labour market helps students to explore key aspects of a particular area of employment including:
- The sectors, industries and businesses that operate there.
- The jobs that exist.
- The number and type of job vacancies.
- The sectors and businesses that are expected to grow in the coming years.
- Travel to work patterns.
- The kinds of skills which will be needed.
- Pay and progression patterns.
